a mate of mine has got a 300 tdi disco with a completely goosed chassis he said the engine is for sale ive heard it running and it is sweet as they come what i wanna know is how hard would it be to swap this into my defender 90 1986 2.5td

has anyone else done this any tips on what i need as he has the full car can i fit his power steering from the same motor to mine while im at it

lastly what is a fair price for every thing i will need from his motor including all ancillaries etc..

as usual all advice is appreciated
 
I did look into it, and went for the 200tdi.

To fit the 300 is slightly more complicated, due to needing the R380 gearbox, moving your existing engine mountings, also the gearbox tunnel will need replacing... I'm not sure but I think for a ' proper job' , one of the props might need changing for a longer version.

If you have the bits, and time go for it.

I didn't , as I need my truck for work so had to get the conversion done as quickly as possible.

im fairly sure u can fit a 300tdi to the lt77 gearbox. it does need the egine mounts movin and rewelding thouhg. I personally prefer the 300 to the 200tdi but when i get round to doin a transplant on my 90 i will prob do a 200 cos they r cheaper.
 
Degz I never thought you would part with that engine, even though they get bad press your seems to run very well indeed. The disco isnt your mates in white is it with the chav lights on the bonnet.
