i was asked today is it possible to change a 4.6 thor v8 engine to a 4.0ltr,my understanding that the ecu,s would be set up for a 4.6 not the 4ltr.i know all the mechanical bits would fit ie cylinder heads inlet manifolds etc,i know the bottom half internals would be different ie pistons and crank not sure about the compression side.any thoughts

Pistons should be the same as the extra volume is got by a longer stroke
I have to ask why would you ?

ive got no idea,just some guy asked me,like i said you can build the engine ok but im sure the ecu would have to be changed or remapped for the engine to run right.why well i would like to know aswell

You are correct in saying that the ecu needs to be altered, it would need connecting to test book or rovacom ect and just changing from 4.6 to 4.0 so the ecu can fuel the engine correctly.
