Hello everyone hoping to get some advice. In December we bought a Range Rover 2.5 DSE Auto. Everything was fine for a couple of weeks, then after a short journey the temperature crept up and the warning light came on. We stopped immediately. We let it cool and topped it up with water, and carried on. It was then fine again for a about 3 weeks then same thing happened again. The mechanic pressure tested the cooling system on the engine and found a split hose at the back of the engine that was leaking a small amount of water. So we replaced that. It overheated again, about a week later, he pressure tested the cooling system again, and found water leaking out of the side of the engine, from the head gasket. We then added K-Seal to the water, which is a permanent gasket repair, it has now stopped losing water, but is building up pressure in the cooling system very quickly when the engine is under load. But it will sit ticking over for hours at running temperature without overheating. Since then we have removed the thermostat, but it again overheated and we had to get the RAC out. He seems to think it could be the heater matrix that is causing the problems. Any advice on what to try next would be appreciated

k seal is not a permament repair, its a bodge. but that aside going by the problems you are having i would budget for a replacement cylinder head and gasket, because chances are the head is cracked.common problem with the bmw lump.

Agree bOdge repair k seal on a v8 causes more problems than it fixes!
It can block rads and water ways rather than doing what it is ment to do
These engines are notorious for overheating and overpressurising of the cooling system
Be carefull of cheap rads as i have found out after a head replacment and gasket it took 5 rads and a threat of court case as the rads are not covered by a warranty sale of goods act

K-Seal will do no good. Repeated overheating will crack the head if it isn't already cracked. As the head gasket has obviously failed, first job is head off, get it crack tested and re-fit with new gasket if it's OK. While you are at it, test the viscous fan is working correctly, fit a new thermostat and water pump and OEM radiator. The rads silt up.

Thanks everyone for your help. Have spoken to mechanics and friends and they have said about the same. Thanks for taking the time to help.:)
