Sorry to ask this again but have searched and found a load of different answers I brought some halfords 5/30 a3/b4 fully synthetic oil for my td4 will this be ok to use it says on the tub to bmw 'll01 spec bought it as it was 12quid for 4 litres instead of 34 quid any advice appreciated.

I had a blond moment once when buying oil for my D1 V8. My brother was visiting from the UK and was going to use the car for touring the South Island. As I went to pour it in - he asked what I was doing - I read the label and it said "for diesel engines"! He responded that any oil was better than none and to bung it in. He's a LR engineer and just celebrated 25 years in the job and the motor didn't perform any worse for it!

Mind you, more modern engines might be a bit more fussey.

Thanks for that mate ,he's right any oil better than no oil but I just need to know difference between acea a3b3 and acea a3b4

2000-2003 - 10w-40 or 15w-40 ACEA A3/B3 .

2004-2006 - 0w-30 , 5w-30 , 5w-40 , 10w-30 , 10w-40 , 10w-50 , 10w-50 ACEA A3/B3 . Depending on temperature were you live .

Engine oil temperature ranges
0W/30 will protect from -30ºC (-22ºF) to 35ºC (95ºF).
5W/30 will protect from -30ºC (-22ºF) to 35ºC (95ºF).
5W/40 will protect from -30ºC (-22ºF) to 50ºC (122ºF).
5W/50 will protect from -30ºC (-22ºF) to 50ºC (122ºF).
10W/30 will protect from -10ºC (14ºF) to 30ºC (86ºF).
10W/40 will protect from -10ºC (14ºF) to 50ºC (122ºF).
10W/60 will protect from -10ºC (14ºF) to 50ºC (122ºF).

That oil will be fine as you could use 10/40 semi in your td4 .
I think most diesel oils are now B4 or B3/B4 .

The M47 engine in the Freelander is from the 1990's, and BMW stopped using it long before FL1 production ended.

Thanks guys very helpful as usual, just got a little confused as it says vauxhall open on front of container but says suitable for bmw on back once again thanks
