Hi,

I know I have started a thread some weeks ago but I searched at the wrong place to find a solution.(i thought their was an issue with the clutch)


Last year I took the engine out to replace some gaskets because it was leaking oil everywhere.... I didnt replaced the cylinder head gasket because that was not leaking..as well as the water pump etc..

My 2.25 petrol engine has got a problem, it no longer turns in clockwise direction or against the clockwise direction. It happened to me when I wanted to adjust the ignition timing. I turned the engine over to TDC , using a lever and now it is blocked their. (spark plugs weren't in).

I took the engine out yesterday..

I hope it is nothing seriously

Is it out of gear??
 
That's not good....don't force it to turn, whatever you did to it last time, something ain't right, valve timing possibly???

Start taking it to bits, until it turns again:)
 
i took the engine out....
i didnt touched the valves or something that could be the cause of that issue...
I am going to dismantle it to see if the chain is broken ...
i hope nothing has fallen down in the carburetor.. would be a tragedy

Timing chain would be a good place to start, if that looks ok, have look at the valves, and/or take the head off.
Thats what I would do..........

I'd leave it in the car and take the head off and the timing chain cover. When you were checking for TDC did you drop anything in the sparkplug holes?

Not sure on these engines but can the timing chain jump if you turn it backwards? I guess not with the self-locking adjuster but not sure...
 
id remove the rocker cover off the top first then remove the rocker shaft so the valves are all shut then remove the spark plugs and see if it turns by hand before stripping the buggery out of it
 
So I have good news and bad news....

I found why it wasn't turning/crankng at all.

Some hours ago I decided to remove the cylinder head... Did that what I found was that a screw fell Into one Spark plug Hole!!!!!
I dont know how that did happen.

The good thing is .. The screw didnt broke Or damaged a valve ; ufffff.. some marks on the piston and the cylinder head but not that big damage

I think i could still get that engine running without changing pistons.. I will try it!!!

replaced the cylinder head gasket, put it together

bad news is that a bolt has broken of while refitting the valve gear ... (it was my dad )
So tomorow I am going to remove the cylinder head again an give it to somebody who can take that broken piece of bolt out

Not luck! Buy a torque wrench and find out how to use it - you won't snap off bolts then! Lol

If you ever take anything out of an engine stuff the holes with a rag. make sure the rag isn't too small or that will fall in too!
 
are you gonna reuse the head gasket as im wondering about reusing mine seeing as mine has only been run for 10 mins since changing it

( cheapskate git arent i :D:D:D:D )

i would reuse your head gasket ;) 10 mins is really nothing for a head gasket . Mine has around 10years and looks fine. I will keep it in case that one blows of somewhere in the desert :D

(you think to put oil on the gasket,block,and cylinder head before put everything together !!)
 
Glad you found the problem, had to be something simple :rolleyes:.
That is one seriously clean looking engine!:eek::D
