Awww bugger yet another problem with the car.

Just driving home and heard a huge thud, hobbled the car home and looked under the bonnet and the engine is now lopsided.

Looks like the engine mounting on the drivers side has collapsed.

The car still runs though which is supprising.

Before I look at it in the daylight is this a relatively easy thing to fix and are the parts expensive ?

I love the old car but its a money pit at the min, you gotta keep smiling eh

Depends on what part has collapsed, might just be the engine mount has come off the side of the engine or worse case is the one has rotted or sheared off the chassis, need more info in the daylight...

Thanks for the reply Marmaduke - my only concern is that it has cause other damage but the engine is still running and I managed to drive the car about a mile home. will check in the daylight.

I have looked this morning and the 2 long bolts on drives side of the engine which hold the engine in place have sheered.

Is this a common problem ?

I'll be honest bud, I own a tratter, I only strayed over here.

Have the other end of the bolts sheared off in the block or are they extractable and easy to replace? You may well find that the other components that hold your engine in place have worn therefore putting more stress and weight onto these bolts

It might be someone over tightened them in the past and weakened them. I had to push pretty hard on a three foot breaker bar last night to loosen mine (changing timing belt). My 240V rattle gun wouldn't even look at them yet it had the crank bolt out in seconds. I'm ordering new ones now to replace them as at 104,000 miles they have probably been removed more than once.

Just a thought but you might want to check the lower tie bar, if it's heavily worn the engine will be rocking more than it should and might have conributed to the issue.

I've seen this once before. The bolts had sheared off, presumably because they were over tightened.
Best option is to replace the bracket on the head and fit 2 new bolts. It's not a difficult job really. I'd not drive it far as the drive shaft on the mount side are obviously taking some of the load.

Thanks for the answers everyone.

Just come back from the scrap yard and had 2 old bolts and the reliever piece which bolts to the block. I am going to do it this afternoon with the old bolts and order new bolts and replace them once I have them.
