Hi
Got a Petrol SIII. When I come to a junction or even just slow down my engine cuts out, then takes a good reving to get it back into life. Any ideas?

Check your plugs, points and timing first, then make sure that you are getting fuel through on tickover.

It could be that your carb bowl has accumulated a load of **** over the years and that it could be blocking your idle jet.

Time for an old stylee diagnostics. Check (or replace) plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm, points, condensor, coil. Make sure coil LT circuit is sound. Check fuel tank for water ingress, check in tank filter isn't clogged, check sedimenter bowl and filter are clear, check lift pump is working efficiently, replace in line fuel filter (if fitted) check carb for water/crud especially the slow running jet. Check carb/manifold for air leaks. Check air filter isn't crudded up, make sure air filter hose isn't collapsing under suction. Take a college course in vehicle maintenance or buy a new car that tells you what's wrong all by itself.

OK - a trip to your local library is in order for some old motor mechanics textbooks and then it's time to befriend a fellow landy owner (or anyone with a pre 80s car) for some practical experience. And you'll need a metric and imperial toolkit, a bloody great hammer and these:-
