Sorry if this is a daft question, but since fitting a new carb, the car starts but then cuts out if I take my foot off the accelerator, is this a matter of adjusting the carb, or could it be something more serious, sorry forgot to say it is a 2.25 petrol engine?

When I first bought the car I put it in a garage to see what it needed to pass its MOT, the guy at the garage said the car wasnt running right and I needed a new one, and as I know next to nothing about cars I bought one and he fitted it for me.

so the first thing to do is talk to the guy who fitted it for you,let him know it isnt running rite and that you would like him to rectify the fault,after all he fitted the carb and should of noticed the problem?

Unfortunately the car is SORNED in Ardrossan and the mechanic is in Greenock.
