hi i am taking my heads of this weekend because i am losing water all the time the heads are going in to be checked but is there a way i can check the block with the heads of for any crackes it is a 4.6 v8 p38 many thank kev

not really as cracks will only show under pressure and heat. obviously if theres anything obvious then its worth investigating properly.

you can check the deck by using a feeler guage and straight edge, rave gives you the allowed variation, and just go around the block with the straight edge and see if the feeler guage will go under it. (old method but it works)

check the liners are all in the correct place, the deck of the block should look like one piece of metal, no rings around where the liners are.

Have a look at your engine, if it has a rectangle cover with 4.6 its a Gems, if you have the spider looking manifold then its a Thor engine.
