Hello,
When starting my 2001 Defender 90 TD5 today, I was met with a high-pitched squeal coming from the engine bay area - the diesel pump wasn't working and the sound lasted several seconds but not long enough for me to open the bonnet to more accurately locate the source of the sound. Also, later on a short journey, an amber warning light came on of an engine symbol when the engine briefly cut-out?
If anyone can offer any clues to the cause of this it would be greatly appreciated!

Graham.

CPS maybe for engine light, you need a code reader to verify the code.
Squealing noise could be related to anything attached to the auxiliary belt.
Diesel pump? Do you mean the fuel pump in the tank?

I would start by removing the auxiliary belt and spinning each pulley and checking for play in the bearings.

The engine light and cutting out is likely a separate issue. If you have any security switches fitted that cut the fuel pump via the inertia switch then bypass them temporarily as a failing switch can cause this (ask me how I know 🤣 ).
