But someone did say to me once that the reason metal on vehicles corrode so much is because of the fact they are negative earth, he reckoned earlier positive earth vehicles were less prone to rust.
That also sounds like bollox.
Or does it? rust is an chemical reaction, and battery terminals attract that process and corrode, does the fact that the negative earth of vehicles attract chemicals that corrode the metal faster?
That little battery drainer reckons it interferes with that reaction via the earth?? nice idea, does it work? am I gullable?
like the green LED that tell you when you battery is dead!

Sacrificial anodes are used on boats,without them they would rot into the sea within a year or two.If I remember right it's the water acting as a conductor that makes it work so well. It's still a bit of a black art as different metals (anodes) are used

indeed, +ve earth made them more rust prone, it makes the body the anode, which is what dissolves over time in any battery, the -ve cathode doesnt, hence the change to all -ve earth vehicles.
IFIAK the sacrifical anodes on boats are not electronic in any way, but a more reactive metal that sacrifices itself, ie a more reactive metal will always react faster than the less reactive when the the 2 are put together. (ally to steel anyone) thus protecting the less reactive metal.
hmm, might try bolting some magnesium to the fender
or lithium
some of this may be wrong, pretty sure its about right, though it has been a while since A-level chemistry!!

Part of me thinks if they worked manufacturers would have introduced as standard (unless they want cars to rust to sell more

I have had a couple Hyundia's and the company that I work for had a few of the Hyundia vans.
All came with these installed.
I dont know if Hyundia did it or if it was the dealership.
When I sold my Teracan(Hyundia), it was 9 years old and had no rust.
Everything rust in The Bahamas.
