Hi all

I have nearly completed the rebuild of my 90 but still got problems with my electrics,

the hazard light only want to work with the ignition turned on and the fog light goes off when you put main beam on but it still works when you use the flash.

Any ideas any one????

check that the hazard light switch has the two connectors down the side connected.

the frog light is meant to go off with the mean beam - its called the fog light inhibit system, i think there is a relay somewhere. The idea is, if you can see better with main beam then it aint foggy enough for a fog light.

I have got both wires connected to the hazard light switch. power going to it from purple wire and green wires.

So it will pass mot then with the fog light going off with the main beam activated??

Cheers

yes, like i said they are meant to.

in that case, replace the hazard switch, or, CAREFULLY prise it apart and clean all the contacts.

Buy a good quality switch - they are about £20, but im now on my 5th, went for genuine lucas now.

think its the switch then!!!! Balls!

Have tried another switch but it still did the same as the original........

Hmm. That switch is a complicated bastid. Take it apart and have a look inside, check the wiring too it. Can't really advise much more than that, my mate has pinched my wiring diagram for the weekend!

how many defenders do you know with front fog lights?!

Whci reminds me, why do so many Knob-eds drive around with their front fog lights on?

Oh i like those little chav ****ers!
Main beam wi 2 x 9" 100watt spotlights right at their eye level usually meks them change their mind!:D

The little wires down the side ought not to make a bit of difference all they do is power the little light in the switch.

Well, mine had some when I got it. But a grinder removed them easily enough, but did spray my Citroen with molten plastic ball joint which I can't seem to get off. Although, so far I've only tried rain.

There was a serious reason for asking though.

And - what year is it?

OOOhhh i gotta get me some of them...it seems to be contagious here to drive with fog lights on..drives me barmy...don't they know its not only illegal but bloody dangerous! I go blind for a few secs sometimes and thats nowt to do with danish porn before you make a wise ass comment!

i have 2 7 inch 60w and 2 rectanglular ones again 60w, plus main beam.

Again they normally turn them off.

Ive found its expecially effective to drive slightly towards them with the lights on :)

Okay, but what year? Got loads of diagrams in front of me, need to know which one to concentrate on!

Getting there Dez, but another clarification needed.

You say the rear fog goes off on main beam. Do I take it that it is on with sidelights and dipped beam?

yeah the rear fog light should only ever operate with the headlights on, sidelights on, dip beam. It should be disabled with the headlights off, and mainbeam on.
