Hello everyone.

I'm currently in the process of re-installing the wiring loom for a Defender 90 200tdi and there are a few wires behind the dash that are a mystery to me. I've delved deep into the wiring diagrams and googled a lot to no avail !

1st are the Slate/Red wires. Both connected into a small female spade connector suggesting they go into the dash warning light but what for ? Googling this says they are for transmission oil temperature but to my knowledge I don't have this installed, so I don't know.
Next to it is the white wire running alongside it similarly with a small spade female connector. Again no idea where this goes.

2nd are the Black/Pink and Black/Slate Wires which I believe are for the rear heated window. Could someone tell me how and where I need to connect these. Both this time with large spade connections. In the diagram there is a diode between these wires so I'm a bit confused.

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Heated rear window wires will go straight into the switch next to the hazard switch.
Mine also has trans warning light, it doesnt work but may be wired in but as I have never looked I dont know for sure.

Nice one so the transmission wires are to be taped and forgotten about.

The switch for the rear heated window is already connected with its wires if I recall correctly. hmm... I'll have to have a look next weekend when I'm working on it again.

The first picture looks like something that's been added aftermarket/by a previous owner (spade crimp and heat shrink)

Apologies for opening up an old discussion but I found this thread when having the same problem AND I now have the correct answer so thought it worth sharing/completing the topic for future searchers……

The bulb socket with 2x Slate/Res and 1x White is the bulb for the transfer case oil temp warning light…..defender warning light panel, bottom row middle red, between Trailer and Side lights. So that heat shrink is factory legit!

Some LT230 transfer cases had an oil temp switch, some had a bolt and some had nothing…in the side of the main case up at the PTO end (see pick where my bolt is).

If you have the 2x Slate/Red and 1x White bulb socket then down at the transfer case you’ll likely find 2 female plugs, 1x Slate/Red and 1x Black. Pop them on to the temp switch (PRC7984) and you’re done! I swapped out my bolt for a switch of course. When the T/C is getting over worked the oil gets hot and the switch comes on to tell you to “calm down dear, it’s a Land Rover!”. So a low cost, little effort safety feature that I thought worth enabling despite it not being so, out of the factory.

A little more background for those reading this and wondering where the extra Slate/Red went….

Checking LR Workshop (Wiring diagram above), I worked it back. The extra S/R goes to a diode with the other side wired via a White/Yellow coming from the HandBrake warning light circuit. The point being that this circuit powers the warning lights (Handbrake, Brake and T/C temp) when ignition and handbrake are on but off when driving. My assumption is that it’s a fail safe at initial start up to show the light is/isn’t working before you set off. The diode just stops bi-directional power feed if (when) the T/C switch reaches (high) temp and the warning light comes on.

Hoping someone finds the above useful one day!
