This is the first Disco I have owned. When I got her about 6 years ago, she was in sorry shape. I bought her from a college student who never bothered to do any sort of maintenance, including changing the oil!
I have had a series of mechanical trials as a result of the lack of care taken with this vehicle.
I have worked out many of the quirks and problems, and the only real jobs remaining are to replace the leaking heater matrix and replace the head gaskets.
There are some electrical problems I am having, and I do not have much experience in this area. The first problem is the power seats. The drivers seat is functional, however, it will only operate with the door open. The passengers seat motor is absolutely fried. I am planning to open it up and re-solder the connections, as some of the wires read cold, and other connections appear to be cracked.
I have tried replacing the relays for the seats, but it does not help at all. I did notice that the fusible link that governs the seat motors and the AC condenser fan looks somewhat charred. Could this fusible link possibly cause the seat motor to function intermittently, and only with the door is open? I am awaiting the arrival of a new fusible link in the mail, as they are not readily available here in the middle of nowhere.
Incidentally, the other issue I am having deals with the AC condenser fan...which also works intermittently, causing the engine to overheat when I run the AC (but only sometimes). Maybe I am a bit doubtful that the fusible link is the cause of the problem, because it seems all too easy. That said, is there anything else I should be looking at?
I would also appreciate any advice you have regarding the removal of the dash...anything to make replacing the heater matrix easier, since I will be going at it by myself!
Thanks so much for your help!
