Hi all, just bought myself a rr p38 on a 95 plate. There is one fault I have found upto now. The front passenger window goes up and stops about 1/4 of an inch short of closing followed by a bang then there is a beep from behind the dash. I remember hearing something about this being a case of the window just needing reprogramming? Is this true or is there something else I need to do. Btw the window goes up and down ok just stops short.

To reset the window, press down until the window goes all the way down, then straight away press up until it goes all the way to the top. Keep the switch pressed all the while you do this. You should get a "Window Set" message come up on the binnacle.

If you get a bang, it suggests the window is getting stuck in it's track or is getting jammed in some way. The windows have an anti-trap function, and if their movement is resisted too much the window will stop (it thinks your finger is in there).

The mechanism (window regulator) that moves the windows is a bit flakey, and they bend out of shape over time so the window doesn't go up and down straight and true, and this causes the problems.

Easy to change if it is the window regulator. You just need 4 pop rivets and an hour.

can be adjusted if you remove door panel but 9-10 you will find the frame on reg is cracked or rivets sheered

I had the same problem on mine recently, I've just changed the regulator over, but in the meantime, if you help the window up with a hand on either side of the glass, whilst you raise it with the motor, it might let you get it shut (in case of rain, and theft!) whilst you order spare parts if that's what's needed.

It's unlikely to be the anti-trap because when that operates the window should come back down an inch or so. I'd lay bets on your regulator but I'd also check the glass channels for any debris.

Mine was exactly the same. Took the door card off and saw the winder mechanism was missing a couple of cog teeth; also the retaining rivet closest to the pillar was very loose. One probably caused wear in the other. Replaced the mechanism and reset the window (don't buy replacement from Britpart though, or you'll be changing it again in the near future).
You're getting the bleep warning at the moment because the mechanism cannot fully push the window up.
