Hello,

My 200tdi has done it's 7th lift pump within two years (each of which have been Delphi), so I am now going to go down the electric lift pump route. This time, instead of the diaphragm ****ing diesel into the block or the priming arm shearing from the pin, it is pumping diesel out of the breather hole beneath the diaphragm and covering everything in diesel. Manufacturing quality / longevity is just appalling with these things.

My question is this:- How many psi does a mechanical lift pump produce in my fuel lines before the injection pump? Is it something like 20psi or less? I am going to replace it with a Facet electric lift pump but they only seem to go up to about 10psi. Will this be adequate enough?

Thanks,
-Tom

after a little googling the common answer is that the lift pump pushes out somewhere between 10-15psi. But thats the internet talking so dont quote me

Oh crap, I've just fitted a Delphi pump. That's a lot of pumps, are you running on veggy? Are the original Land Rover units any better?

I run on neat veg oil most of the time so very viscous and hard to pump esp in cold weather, I am still on the cheapo £14 off ebay lift pump i fitted two years ago when i thought the original had gone tits oop.... Cant understand how you can get through so many?? are they all bought from the same place??

Cheers Steve

That was the conclusion I came to as well but people do seem to vary with their opinions! :D

Delphi are known for manufacturing quality components so it has come as a bit of a surprise to me (obviously less of a surprise now that I'm on my 7th / 8th one!). It cant just be bad luck, two have sheared the diaphragm pin from the priming arm that rides on the cam, two have leaked diesel into my engine (diluting my oil) and three have just stopped working full stop. Keep a good eye on it but try not to let it bother you, surely they can't all be ****e. I run on clean diesel, no restrictions in the fuel lines and no rubbish in the fuel tank either.

could you use a electric pump off a petrol model?

Yep, Facet pumps tend to be multi fuel.mi am gong to go for a solid state pump. The one thing I can't grasp is that the claim to have no moving parts. Surely there is a diaphragm inside?

1-2bar is fine - it just needs to be able to keep up with demand.

That's quite a bit more than the facet pumps can rack upto, would 10psi be adequate? It's more down to gallons per hour though isn't it so I would need to match or exceed whatever the mechanical lift pump outputs.

Cheapo one may be better quality! Yes they ae all from the same garage but it has absolutely nothing to do with them personally. They order parts when they are required and it is a fiasco that has been going on for te years, not just a few months. There could have been a faulty batch manufactured but then they have more or less all failed in different ways (give or take two or three).

do you actually need a lift pump ?? may be a daft question , but disco has pump in tank and injector pump , is it a hangover fron series days ??

the bosch ve injector pump does have an internal pump that can pull fuel from the tank, obviously not enough though or they would of got rid of them ages ago, 300,300tdi discos did have lift pumps
