Hi

I'm wanting to fit EGR blanking kit to my 300tdi,
just read another post about TD5 EGR kit, and there was a link on there, which also tells you how to fit a 300 kit.


Just wondered if anyone had fitted this kit and where abouts they fitted the plate so that they didn't have to change the top hose?

I thought that every 300tdi had just about been done now!
Just take your egr off,put plate inbetween when you put egr back on.
 
don't worry mines prob the last one!!!!

Ok i'll probably put it under the egr for now, and at some point might put silicone hoses in, and will remove the system if i do it then.
If i come across some scaff bar in the meantime will use that, great idea!!!!

Well got my blanking plate
At the same time i bought something else, it was advertised as stop black smoke + BHP. This has arived aswell. Its a bearing that fits into the small vacuum pipe that fits on top of the Egr.
Am i right in thinking that if i fitted the bearing with the blanking plate installed inbetween the two plates, that are on the metal pipe that connects to the top intercooler hose????
 
Aye, basicly its a scam; they tell you "stop black smoke etc..." sell you a bearing to disable the EGR vaccum.

However, you can use this to block the vaccum pipe, then bung the plate on (keep the first gasket in place), then go about until you find a piece of scaff bar, then find a little kid and give them a hacksaw, mark the scaff to size, and tell them to cut. Take a file to any burrs on the edges, clean off all the swarf carefully before fitting. I think I washed mine out and scrubbed it all up.
 
Yeah i do feel abit SCANKED!!!!!!!!

So the bearing in the vacuum pipe as well as the blanking plate, will make more difference than just the blanking plate, for now untill i rip out the whole EGR is that right?

Yeah already on the case, looking for some damaged scaff that someone can't use, so that i can nick a section out of it.
Thinking about asking around a few hire stations incase they've got some they don't want. any ideas of anywhere better to try?
 
Go round a building site and ask for an offcut or small piece, the guys will likely give you a bit if there is not a bit lying about.

The BB is not going to do anything on top of the plate, however, the BB can be used to block the pipe once you have removed the EGR system so that the vaccum is not wide open (its connected to the brake vaccum pump).
 
So am i right in thinking that the BB in that vac pipe, on it's own without the blanking plate installed, won't effectively do very much?

NO!

Because if yeh EGR is crapped up and not closeing exhaust gases will be passing (with out blanking plate) all the same.

Blank the thing off and then when you get a few pennies together get a direct silicon hose off fleabay,then you dont have to go bothering busy builders.;)

What you on about builders are never too busy!!!!!!

I was just trying to get it straight how scanked i was!
 
Fit the blanking plate and throw the EGR thingy away. You can also remove the potentiometer on the throttle if you like, makes it look simpler.

You only need the BB if you don't have the blanking plate. Also the EGR is not required by law, so you don't have to pretend it is working.

NB late-model TD5's don't have the EGR, though they still have the restrictive throttle housing. Obviously LR have come to their senses re EGR which just causes more trouble than it is worth. I mean, how would YOU like to have your exhaust connected to your intake? :D

Yeah know what you mean Jim does seem a silly design! but the old gal will be able to breath better now!:D

Well im glad Jason that were singing off the same Himm sheet, for a min there thought you ment they were actually working!!:D

Well removed the EGR system today. What did you lot do with the sensor that looks like it reads the air intake, and probably controls the opening and closing of the EGR valve, it sits behind N/S headlight?

Also when i was messing about, i had the bottom intercooler pipe off and noticed on the sides of the pipe it had a very small amount of oil on the side of the pipes, it prob wasn't even a thin layer. Is this normal for abit of oil in the pipes, or is it sumat nackered in the turbo?
 
Dont know what sensor your on about, if you are not sure just leave it!I will have a look on mine later.

A small quantity of oil is normal due to the engine breather that feeds into air intake.It is because of the oil in the air mixing with soot in the exhaust gases that every thing becomes caked in tar like stuff that causes all the problems.

When I did my last EGR I took the intercooler,inlet manifold and all the pipes off to give it all a good clean but as it happens did'nt need it too much except for the inlet manifold that was a bit caked up.
