Hi All

I have come across numerous posts where people suggest blanking off the EGR valve. My concern is that the EGR valve also serves the purpose of reducing combustion temperatures as evident from varoius research done by the fundis. If the EGR valve is removed, wont the temp be excessive in the combustion chamber which could be detrimental to the vehicle. I have disco 1, 300tdi and not very happy about blanking off the EGR. Any comments will be appreciated.

Many thanks

Hey,

I did this on my 300tdi Disco on saturday, was a pretty quick job and I have noticed that she pulls away from stationary much better and generally has more grunt low down before the turbo kicks in.

How old if your engine? To see whether it would be worth doing or not, take off the top intercooler to inlet manifold pipe at the manifold end and take a peek inside of the manifold. If it is full or a marmite like substance then chances are you'd be better doing it. I didn't clean my manifold out when I did it but I will when I get the chance (holding it till I have a free day as I'll replace the gasket which means exhaust manifold has to come off etc).

There has been talk from some people of this causing an MOT fail, but people I know who have done it have not had any problems (i'm keeping the valve and piping just incase I need to re-fit it at some point).

So really mate, its up to you.

Every body in there right mind does it as soon as they buy their disco if not already done, but If you are not "happy" about it dont do it, just carry on until your "EGR" clogs yeh engine up with black snot and wont run any more and then you will be happier about doing it as you wont have a choice!

Get Rid :)

binned mine 2 yeas ago also got rid of the cat replaced with a down pipe for a defender, passed 2 mot's so far, but I am running on veg oil too

Noop!
200tdi is blessed with not ever having one fitted! You can see a plate on engine block wi 2 bolts under exhaust manifold where it was fitted to the 300tdi's 1995 onwards!
