If it was a joke, it was in poor taste. There are enuf greenies looking at sites like this for ammo against us. You have both met me and know that I like laning. We have lost to many because of peeps that do exactly what yu said. Ask Medusa about her local " winch alley".
As for winches. I have a cheap one and it has worked fine. It depends how much use it is likely to get. Like any tool.

If I dare to resurrect the topic, and everyone can put their chests back in for a minute please (if you don't ,I'll knock you out), have you decided on a winch yet Matt? As I said, I am looking at the same sort of stuff as you for a similar budget.

After doing a bit more searching, and talking to people, the Goodwinch stuff seems to be a good buy for around £375. I keep looking at the orange Winchmax that SASBOB posted up thats on egay, which seems a good deal, and with a decent review, might be worth a punt............The trouble with the second hand Warn stuff that appears on ebay, it all seems shagged out, or with no rope or needs a rebuild.

Found a company near me ws4x4 (they have winch bumpers on ebay)

They do a chunky winch bumper and a bar for couple of hundred and they have winches too. Look pretty good for fenders, they do series stuff too.

Just to confirm mate as far as I am concerned green hornet was only joking( good or bad is how you take it I guess)
Anyway back on subject I think I will be getting a champion winch of some sorts as they have got some good reviews I do like the goodwinch but it's just that little bit to much £££

I have asked a few people that have purchased the winchmax from eBay and they all have nothing but good things to say about them and the after sales
But all said and done I guess you pays yer money and you takes yer chance eh

All right **** wits.

At the risk of high jacking Matts thread for a second.

So I said, sorry wrote the word lane. I should have explained that it is a specific off road piece of land that I am aware of.

No before you all go on being hollier than thou you need to be sure you understand the person you are taking the **** out off. I do what I can to protect the BOAT's that I use and do what I can to stop any idiot ruining the pastime that we all enjoy so much.

My post was to a good friend of mine now go and do one..........and no I didn't go to retard school..... I had special classes in my lunch break...

are you?
:hijacked:
I see the tetestorone fuelled replys are flying a plenty. Good, makes great enterainment. If you met me youd all be scared cos im dead hard and all that etc, etc. But i wish to hijack the thread in a slightly different manner....

Get a tirfor.
that is all.

sold my 8274 on egay with new bowmotor on it and 150ft plasma rope gigglepin gearbox conversion sold it for £875

mine wasnt shagged out

I should hope not for £875.......Too strong for me I'm afraid. Only looking to spend £350ish.......and the used Warn's for that money are normally rough.

Wiltshire, if I was looking to buy an 8274 for around £350, if it needed a complete strip and rebuild with new bearings/seals and brake parts, how much do you think I would be looking at in repair costs.

My thinking is to buy a cheap one because I can't stump up 700 quid for a decent one in one go, bit if I buy a ****ter I can strip down, rebuild/refurbish and modify bits along my way. Also I learn how it works so I can use it better.

Just wondering of its a false economy and do you know if they are a difficult beast to rebuild??

Cheers :)

Right I think I have narrowed it down to either champion 9500 hs or the goldfish 9500

I'm swaying towards the champion cos its got a 3 year warranty
And tbh other than that they are pretty much the same on paper

Goldfish IMO, at least you can ring up and speak to Dave about them directly.

Knowing what I know now, if I couldn't afford 8274 I would buy goldfish.

Cheers.
