looks like one a pall of minr bought it looked the part until he had to winch out of some mud it then destroyed its self and snapped all its mounts

Matt Matt Matt - let's just talk about this over a coffee. I said a small Xmas pressy

Seriously - I think a super winch or warn item is better value and then there are also better bumpers around too. After all you have lasted well so far with a good snatch rope. Besides I want a winch damn it, you guys come in and buy all this off roading stuff and then take me out and play and then I come home to my half finished motor.......... Bohoho

I've been doing a lot of searching on here about winches, bumpers etc, and at last think I have come to a decision.

I ordered a tubular winch bumper from an ebay dude called glassbacknidge, who makes bumpers. They are very cheap, and well made, and after talking to the guy, and looking at his feedback, I had one. I got it even cheaper, as I wanted it in bare metal to modify it a tad.

As for the winch, I will probably get one similar to the one you posted.......cheap chinese crap, I hear the purists cry, but there are plenty of threads on here saying how good they are, even with heavy use and submersion etc. I only do greenlaning and the odd playpit, and wasnt going to bother with a winch, but I wanted the bumper for clearance, and for £250, I decided I will have one. Some of the cheap ones have had good reviews on here, but there are plenty who will say they are tat. 50/50

I'm somewhere in the middle. Yes one of our mates bought an orange one and it snapped in half.

Now I bought a super winch lp10000 for 318 quid.

I could have bought a china winch with synthetic rope from same money.

Turns out I wish I had because all I got was a china winch with a nice super winch sticker.

In fairness the winch still works after nearly 2 years of hammer. But only just, it's die a rebuild and need s new solenoid.

In hindsight, I should have bought better and that's what I recommend to folks now.

I'm looking for an affordable 8274 that needs a rebuild. What's the point in buying anything if you can get an 8274 in my opinion. But we'll see about that cost they are so dear.

Seriously though avoid a china winch if yu can, they are limited life and you can't get parts.

Cheers

Ok cheers for all the info guys
Just been on to my local 4x4 place and they have these in stock
T-Max Outback 9000lbs 12v Winch Landrover 4x4 (Limited Time Offer)

Are that alright as I really don't want to be spending £1k on a winch and then another 250 on a bumper don't want to be spending much more than £500 really on thd lot and it must be a wrap around style bumper!!

I know you really want one mate as I do too, however never buy just because there is a sale. Jules does it and regrets it lol

Decide on the model you want first. Speak to the guys around at the pay and play this month and see some in action.

Then search and save.

Hope thi shelps and trust me Im not trying to popo your idea of a winch. after all you will be pulling me out as i cant afford one yet lol

why get that one when you could this one (looks exactly the same even down to the name ) for half the price?

eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

dont get me wrong, its not a warn or superwinch. but will serve its purpose. i know some guys that use these winches for winch challenges, use them till they die then sell them for repairs. then replace as it works out cheaper than buying a warn or such .

I have just had this conversation with colin from extreme 4x4, he has advised me on best ways to go and he came out with some very well priced winches like this one:

Extreme 4x4 Ltd CHAMPION C9500 HS

You can get the same one for cheaper, just a slower line speed:

Extreme 4x4 Ltd CHAMPION C9500 EWX

Couple that with a winch bumper for £150ish and there you have a £500 package and a decent branded winch with UK support, extreme4x4 look after you in house so no long distance calls or sending overseas for repair

Ian the t max one is one that was being used by a few of the guys at the last p&p day I was at they really raited them so will prob get one from challenger up the road as i prefer to buy local where possible!
Will look into it more tonight read some reviews etc

Just be very aware that if you are buying a tmax, most champions and a low end super winch, it is a rebranded Chinese ****ter.

If I had my time again and had 318 quid to spend, it would be straight on eBay to buy a second hand warn or super winch.

Buying a cheap winch is false economy, wish I never did.

I can see the guys buying them for challenges and then scrapping them, ok it's a lot to fork out 1200 quid minimum for a decent challenge winch, but there's lots of quality standard speed winches that BELIEVE ME are much quicker than the Chinese.

Mine is a 10000lb winch but makes it strength using a very low ratio gearbox, this means it is powerful but painfully slow.

A good winch is powerful and quick, and will last for a long time. Also you can get parts.

Believe me, dont buy a cheap one for the sake of it!

sorry mate only just seen this, ok it was either a winch and bumper or some 2nd hand jate rings........ so jate rings it it then lol

have been looking for a bit tonight and the goodwinch looks good for the money as does the champion so think i will go for 1 of them and fins a bumper to go with it although i want it all for the 27th as there were a few places I wanted to try but wouldnt/couldnt without a winch:)

Hey mate I am sure you will pick the right one for you and that is all that matters. Just make sure you get good at it because I have a nice suprise for you when you feel you can winch out of anywhere.

One you grab a grouns anchor and some straps and snatch blocks I will take you to a very nice lane and it will probably take about three hours to winch through. Trust me its a Camel trophy experience especially in this inclement weather.

Should you choose to take the challenge.... I mean you may wimp out i dont know.......After all it is a mans environment.................

Have I goeded enough yet lol...........
