Any smart programmers out there that could port the EAS software onto an Android Tablet? It would make a nice portable EAS trouble shooting package with an all in cost of less than £70

Rasberry Pi would be another possibility, bit more hassle with hardware though.

How would you go about connecting the EAS cable to the Android device ?
AFAIK the androids aren't able to use USB in the outgoing direction.

If it's USB it should be bidirectional and the ones I have seen all have a micro USB port. Never seen in the spec that say's it's for uploading only

Plenty of other tablet possibilities including cheap windows ones or even a Rasberry Pi at a push

I've written a couple of Android apps just to learn the SDK and API - as usual it's finding the time to do stuff. It's pretty straightforward - JAVA based with very well thought out and simple to use APIs to the Android functions, and yes, the full-function USB interface is already in place with a simple call interface. Raspberry Pi means learning Python - not hard but it's another time factor

I don't have any knowledge of modern software, I stopped at 8085 and assembler or I'd be tempted to give it a go.
