What is actually happening is that it is "very difficult" to stop the air coming out of the compressor, but not impossible. I have no idea whether my 3psi reading is correct or not. But, yes, it is possible to stop the airflow.

The compressor is now going back to Island 4x4 for a replacement. I will also be querying why their Web site says that the compressor is a Dunlop, but what I received was a Britpart.
