Right - Ive bodged my dumb irons to get through the mot which was successfull.

Now I want to do them properly soon and was going to buy two replacements but at 77 squid plus vat maybe not

Does any one know if I need the jacking points at front for mot reasons?

I'm thinking of cutting them off as they look like a rust trap to me then weld up the box section above it for the bumper to attach to??

What do you all think???

Yes they are rust traps and mud traps if you leave the bungs out.The supplied jack is a pain to use so I have a bottle jack with cup to fit under axle for normal use and standard high lift for off road.Your plan sounds good to me and there should not be a problem with mot.May well remove mine sometime.

I've had my 110 CSW for over a year and done loads of work and have not used the origanal jack once. Looks to me that it would muck up the paint in the hole and cause it to rust? I prefer my trolley jack and a block of wood.

Taking the old bumper off was a nightmare as the bolts snapped cause they had rusted - Trying to cut bolts off the captive nut plate With out the jack point who needs the original captive nuts on a plate. As with full access two nuts would be fine !!!

I'm definately going to do it when I get round to it.

Cut them off They are badly designed rust traps that only work in conjunction with land rover's poorly designed jack. Get yourself a bottle jack instead

When I ordered my new chassis from Richards last year, I had them cut off and blanked before galvanising.

If your chassis number is stamped into it, then it might be worth keeping in the garage.

Why ?? When I phoned up for a new chassis they told me to stamp my old chassis n° on and keep the original bit of the chassis with the chassis N° in me shed !

I thought that is what I said. I didn't mean keep the whole chassis, unless you own a massive shed, and if so.. can I keep some stuff in it too

How do you get the chassis number stamped back Onto a new chassis or dumb iron? A 90 I'm looking at has had dumb irons replaced so the number has gone (the chassis plate on the servo is there though), didn't think you could do that??

I don't think a 'new' chassis needs it, and you aren't meant to reuse a different old chassis. For new dumb irons, personally, I wouldn't bother.
