On mine the seat runners bolt to the seat base frame and the seat box, accessible by lifting the seat base out. The actual runners are plated and aren't painted, but the seat frame is.

Thanks Oxides, but ours are 2 part with a static base and a sliding top part with what i guess is a pair of rollers of balls in there somewhere. Yes the bottom part bolts to the seat box but the cushion just sits in the top frame and you press a lever to release a dog (on one slide only) and the seat can then slide back and forth. We need to get into those 2 parts but can't work out how to do it.
It sounds like mine - the seat base is a tight push fit into the base, it might just need a bit of levering out. Have a look in the parts catalogue for the variants pdf Land Rover Manuals | Landroverweb.com
Here are the pictures. So we want to get the top rail off the bottom rail. There is a roll pin at either end which we have driven out but the two parts still seem to come to some internal stop. We want to clean them up, put in new balls (or whatever) and re-grease to give that as new feeling!
