I have a 99 manual disco when going over bumpy ground It seems to lose the drive for a short time. After a bit of a rattle noise I suspect the clutch can anyone advise. There is a noise like Its not quite in gear hence rattle. Can not remember if I dip clutch to sort It at the time. It don't last for long thankfully.

try to pull the hi/low lever towards you when it's doing it...it seems that it jumps in neutral for short times... maybe there's some wear within the transfer box

Thanks for your reply Ill look into transfer box. Is there any adjustment that can be made.

When I read your post it sounded to me like the traction control kicking in. Traction is momentarily lost when going over an obstacle and that causes it to activate. I've had two Disco TD5's and the later one is more sensitive as to when the TC kicks in, not that it's overly so. Don't know if the sensitivity can be adjusted or not....anyone?

Thanks for your reply. Im not sure about that did not see light come on and sounds like Its not in gear when It happens you know the rattle sound.Do appreciate all the suggestions though. As I live on a farm there is a bumpy road but no reason to lose traction when dry and going slow.I should see light come on If It is traction control kicking in.Ill look for It next time hope Its that simple.

It doesn't take much for the TC to kick in - dropping off a kerb can do it. It does make a scary sound the first time you hear it.
