Just got home onto the drive and smoke started blowing out the exhasut and the engine sounds like a tractor. Looked in the water and it looked very murkie??

Does that sound like a head gasket?

Is it a 1.8 by any chance?

What year is it?

Has it had the plastic dowells on the block replaced with metal ones?

Has it had the thermostat mod done?

Its a 2000, not sure on the dowells, I'll ask. When I got the car, I phoned landrover and asked about the thermostat, they said it had been done the garage is now saying it has not, although there have been several new thermostats introduced???? This problem sucks, is there really nothing to be done that can prevent it?? does the 2.5l suffer with same problem?

I don't believe that the 2.5 has the same probles as the 1.8.
