Hi I have just replaced both ball joints at ether end of the rod that connects the steering box to the n/s hub this is the drag link I think. Any way the steering wheel was centered be for I put the new ball joints on its now right of center am I right in thinking that if I loosen the clamps at ether end of the rod and turn the rod in the right direction I will be able to recenter the steering wheel.
which way do I turn the rod to get the steering wheel back to center it needs to go to the left.
If it helps the o/s ball joint is right hand thread and the n/s is left hand thread.
Nearly for got it an N reg 300tdi
many thanks

Disconnect one of the joints, set steering wheel straight ahead and turn joint till it lines up.
That's what I do anyway:)

Yes, that's how you adjust it. As for which way, too much thinking to work out! Start twisting and see what happens.

to check put pas box in center position by lining slot at rear of drop arm with hole in bottom of pas box using the pin or suitable drill bit ,check steering wheel is then aligned if not put right , and then drive vehicle if steering wheel isnt then aligned adjust drag link till it is .that way road wheels are running straight when pas box is in correct central position

Thanks for the quick reply's I will check the steering box is centered and then adjust as I need will do this tomorrow and let you all know how I get on many thanks

dont forget you dont adjust drag link till steering wheel is set to centered pas box

If the wheel is to the right then shorten the drag links length, to the left it's extend the length.

Hi thank you all for your advice and help I checked the steering wheel was center with the steering box and adjusted the drag link to bring it back to center .I got a few jobs sorted today hand brake adjusted and hand brake cable. tomorrow I have to sort the back lights as one brake light keep going off but my discover has rear light guards fitted so I can't get the light cluster out as the screw that holds the guard on won't come out it seized in so plan to drill them out and retap the hols and sort some new screws bet that going to be fun!!
