Can anyone give me the correct length of the drag link arm for a Disco 1 please, centre of pin to centre of pin.
Just changed swivel housing, track rod ends and drag links.I measured the old stuff coming off and used those measurments for the ball joints going back on.
When reversing with full lock to the left i get a kind of rumble noise coming from the N/S front.I have just got under and had a look and on full lock the track rod ball joint touches the calliper.
Not normal im guessing?.
Have also started to get a bit of intermitent brake squel from same side.
I have run some string front to back on the wheels and can get the drivers side to line up but not the passenger side,so tracking needs adjusting.
regards
Terry.

you should adjust lock stops and centralise steering, which entails setting box central (disregardingroad wheels and steering wheel)then set steering wheel at ujs or coloumn, then drive vehicle note where steering wheel rests when going straight and adjust drag link to put steering wheel back to center,at which point box also will be ,but you must start art box

Thanks James,
would i be correct in thinking there is a trick using a 50 pence, to set the steering box or would that just be my brain playing tricks on me?.

while were talking drag does anybody know which side is lh thread, and which is rh.mine failed mot today on ns draglink us.have lh instock but not rh

thats a new one on me , but when travelling straight, box must be central ,theres usually a pin and hole on rear of drop arm to set it central if not count turns lock to lock then set the rest

OK then, got the box to centre, steering wheel is also on centre.
Got the string out and went front to back on the wheels.
After some adjusting to both drag and track rod.
Drivers side is all straight but on the passenger side i have a 10mm gap on the forward edge of the rear wheel?.
I have also noticed that the front passenger wheel sits flush with the wheel arch but the drivers side is 20mm in from the arch?
I have just replaced swivel housing bearings etc on the passenger side, would there be a difference in the size of the old swivel housing?

:confused::confused::confused:

i normally just drive it down the road after checking box and steering wheel are centered, then correct drag ink if needed, track rods a different operation altogether and nothing to do with centering steering , swivel change wont make any difference disco been 4wd on the road tracking can be set to 0 (parallel)

Panhard rod controls left to right movement of the whole axle .. I'd have a look at this first to get the swivels/wheels centred. Bodywork might not be central, mind .. so check it off the chassis.

I have just replaced panhard bushes,i did think that maybe the body is sitting of centre but that would not explain the ns wheels not sitting in line, would it?

as above and tracking cant be correct on front axle or rear if wheels arent in line ,when you drive down the road both wheels will be out ,you often find axle sitting slightly one side more than the other in relation to body
