Hi does anyone know if the exhaust clamp on the downpipe is replaceable ?

I managed to shear the bolts whilst trying to undo the exhaust.

Is there an alternative that I can fit without having to remove the downpipe
any help would be much appreciated
regards

Steve

Mine has no clamp, it is mounted at the flange and nothing from there to the flexi and then the silencer. If you have sheared the bolts at the manafold then I suspect that the bracket that goes around the exhaust is part of the down pipe and your gona have to take it off and heat them and get them out.

If you look on the web for exhausts then it lists all the parts available, but I'm not sure what part you have broken.

Hi,

It's the bracket that sits at the end of the downpipe, theres another bracket on the middle box, both of these bolt together to clamp the sections.

Unfortunately the bracket on the downpipe has the studs built in, on mine these have sheared and the bracket does not come off over the flange.

The garage that is retesting for the mot wants £80 to burn off the bottom link bar nuts, so to sort out the exhaust he will probably want my first born child and a pound of flesh

Is it not possible to grind off the old studs and then drill new holes and fix together with nuts & bolts?

Hi,

thanks for the reply

i'm going to give it a go in the morning, in a previous thread someone suggested using a couple of pairs of mole grips to hold the bracket whilst grinding

I guess if you can't get into it to drill it, and considering the weather at the minute, you might be better taking off the manafold and lifting the whole lot out through the engine bay and drilling it in doors, or even off at the turbo since the flange nuts tend to need heated and might break.

Is the garage called dick turpin autos, because I think they are clearly trying to shaft you. Bet the bastid didn't even wear a mask either.

lol.....
The problem i've got is this garage is the one which did the mot, the outer sills he said he would weld on for me for £150 if i got the parts, and would only retest on the fail points.

But I get the feeling that come Monday afternoon i'll get a phone call upping the price due to unforseen problems.

Still i'm definately going to save up and buy a mig welder and practice in preperation for next year

Tell you this mate, and I'm an MOT tester if you fill them with plate held on with fibre glass or any other ****e I'm not allowed to scrape it off to check its welded. you could pop rivit them on then cover it with body filler then underseal and he's ****ed. If you doubt me then check it out on the number where you phone for advice located on the notice board of all testing stations. He can't fail it only advise.

fake it up spend the money saved on a mig and do it yourself at you're leisure when the good weather comes, if that is. And it's a great tool to have or rent one for a week. They are **** easy to use, and I mean **** easy. You could even make up a set of tree sliders, and a gate, and your mates mot failure and another gate.

Well I went to drop the car off today but hte guy wouldn't give me a definate price, he said it all depends on whats left to weld to when he grinds off the sill ?

So I decided to take my car else where, another garage has said they will weld on the sill repair panels for £100 leaving me to prime and underseal the sill.

Thanks for all the help
