Done a quick search on intercoolers and wondered apart from purpose made, allard for example, has anyone taken an intercooler from another vehicle and noticed an improvement. Or is it possible to clean out my one and what with?

wash it out with some petrol and then blow through with an airline, if you blow something up doing this i didn't advise it;)

Unless you are wanting to run more boost and adjust the fuelling the standard intercooler is plenty big enough. You will not notice much if any difference just by fitting a larger intercooler. In many cases performance will actually be compromised as there is a larger volume to pressurise leading to extended turbo lag issues.

To clean it out use petrol, parafin, white spirit, etc. If you can, let it soak overnight then make sure its completely drained before refitting. You will need to slosh it back and forwards to make sure that all the oil deposits are diluted and flushed.

You can get proprietry cleaners but they are mega expensive and have some proper nasty chemicals in them.

Just make sure that you leave it overnight to properly dry off if you slosh stuff around. I did not and it was not pretty!

I'm going to try cleaning mine this weekend, It's my birthday on Sunday, and I'm going out tonight, so I have no idea how fit I'm going to be tomorrow  :D

As said above, petrol, white spirit or parrafin. and do it twice for best results.
And dave 90, If you feel able to do anything tomorrow, ya haven't had a good enough night! :p:D

I'll try and make sure that I'm K.O'ed tomorrow morning :D :D

I started a thread a while back about using a TD5 intercooler on a tdi, it came back with mixed views but may be worth a read if you can find it.

I have read about using the td5 intercooler.
And on eblag they were going quite cheap, like 50quid cheap.
Much better than 250! Or however much the alisport one costs:eek:
Don't buy a p38 one they are 40mm to long

Probably doing mine today, Thanks :D went out last night and woke up this morning with a load of puke on the floor  :D

Its early and I am tired....trying to think of a joke to link your puke with the OP's use of the word "doner" which my dyslexic brain is trying to convince me is spelt wrong and is actually the word for a kebab!

So here goes, its early ok.......Donor puke on your floor??

I'll get my coat

I was convinced the same tbh, very impressed with the play on words there :bounce:

BTW All

I have removed my intercooler, and filled it about 3/4 full with petrol, I've sloshed it around a few times, blocked the inlet and outlet and have left it to soak over night, tomorrow I'll slosh it a few more times and then rinse it out with a few litres of fresh petrol. Obviously I'll wait for the petrol to evaporate before putting it back  :D

I'll keep you all posted whether it makes a difference :)
