Ruddy dogs managed to prise off interior panel on R side next to tailgate and chewed thro the wires

Quick repair at garage to get most things functional again... but airbag light won't go off

Just been told it'll be 5k for an entirely new harness to get the airbags working

Does anyone know if there's any other way round this? (They mentioned something about 'resistance' and 'firing circuits' and being 'unable to solder/reconnect', but all a bit over me head tbh)

Take it to a decent "auto-sparky". They tend to be less worried about "things might go bang".
£5K is a big pill to swallow.

Think you're right - 2nd opinion definitely warranted so will go on the hunt tomorrow for an auto-sparky - got everything x'd!

A proper soldered joint should have a negligable effect on the resistance of a circuit, however I can't make such a statement about a "twisted and taped" joint.
Likewise, I'm not aware of any wire used in the manufacture of a vehicle which cannot be joined by soldering or crimping.
I'm unsure whether or not there are any wires in the damaged bundle which should have a screen, even so, provided that has been rejoined it shouldn't have a major effect.
If everything has been correctly reconnected then I would suggest that it could be that the original damage might have caused a fault to be logged which might now need to be cleared to eliminate the indication.

that's what I'm hearing from other folk, that a properly soldered join should function like new and have the airbags working again - hoping to find auto-sparky who agrees and can do
