Every freelander I have looked at has had water in the boot or smelly carpet.

I've decided I am not to worried about this and will have a look at the fixes posts which seem to be in abundance. I have an idea how to sort it. However, is there any problems with corrosion/damage if the problem is not sorted straight away?
 
Yes. The more you leave it the more chance it will rust. The longer it rusts the worse the rust will be. It will never rust as bad as a disco boot floor. The Freelander has a propper paint job so it should be ok. The rust will get into the water and kill the fish.
 
Hi,
Mine isnt that bad.....will get round to fixing it sometime BUT in the meantime i have a cheap (£1 ASDA) Dehumidifier 'thingy' in there to dry up any moisture.....had it in there a few months now & it certainly does the job;)

hi

thats a bloody good idea, see i need to read the posts more, lol

couldnt see anything when i got someone to put a hosepipe round the door, so as the weather is better going to strip out the interior then do the hosepipe again and see where its coming in from

thks again for the tip and will report back if i find out exactly what area its coming in from as it seems alot of others report multiple places including through the welds underneath

couldn't believe the cost of the new door seals either, robbing **** bags, as i see many other owners just get them from a trim company for a fraction of the stealers prices

on removing the carpet to look for the "leak" has all the rear carpet got to be removed, on is the recessed bit separate from the rest ?

yes the rear carpet has to come out as the boot area carpet is all one piece.

i personally will fold the seats right up so there tucked up against the front seats, remove side panels so that the removal of the carpet will be easier and also in the same token go down better as the panels sit over the edge of the carpet

am also going to remove the rear door panel as i can the see properly and check all the grommets etc

i know its going to be a pain but can then at least find exactly where its coming in from as ive had the car 3 years and need to get to the bottom of it

if you have a factory sun roof fitted then as you remove the side panels look at where the drain for the sunroof goes it is only just placed in the drain hole ,look to see if it is blocked.
 
I have read loads of moans about water in the Freelander boot, but I have never suffered from this at all.

I do get water on top of the rear bumper when I open the rear door, but nothing inside the car.

Am I the only one?

Seems so Dog-Man. It was a major concern for me when I first started looking for them. That particular cubby wasn't just damp it was an actual pool.

I remember having a seat leon that leaked terribly and I'm sure the bacteria used to make me ill. Not generally ill but was always coming down with chest/throat infections. Not to mention it stunk too.

Every one since, even the dry ones say they all leak. I only ever found dry ones on warm/hot days but even they smelt funny.
