There was a thread a little while ago asking this about reversing lights, now this.
I'm sure that I was told (probably many years ago) that when it came to MOT time the rule was - if it's fitted it's got to work / be legal. So, for example, if you've got a spare wheel the tyre has got to be legal but if you left your bald spare at home you couldn't be failed.
Was this ever true?

Thanks mate, a useful link that I'll use but my question was more a historical one. In the days before all of our lives were ruled by these computers was there ever such a catch-all rule. I'm wondering if it's something that an MOT tester made up on the spot and used on me many years ago to fail a car and get some money out of me.
