MOT due in a couple of weeks so hoping to sort anything obvious. The rear wiper works but not the washer. Is this needed for MOT?

There was a thread a little while ago asking this about reversing lights, now this.
I'm sure that I was told (probably many years ago) that when it came to MOT time the rule was - if it's fitted it's got to work / be legal. So, for example, if you've got a spare wheel the tyre has got to be legal but if you left your bald spare at home you couldn't be failed.
Was this ever true?

No.
Spare is not testable.

Thanks mate, a useful link that I'll use but my question was more a historical one. In the days before all of our lives were ruled by these computers was there ever such a catch-all rule. I'm wondering if it's something that an MOT tester made up on the spot and used on me many years ago to fail a car and get some money out of me.

Just to confirm, the rear wash/wipe on our old Zafira conked-out a couple of years back. It passed two subsequent MOTs without comment.

Must be, and that would be in the days before the "knowledge" that's available on the-www.
You may get an advisory if the tyre is iffy but if covered up then tester cannot remover the cover.. Thank you www
