Tricky one because it is it's original chassis converted to coils so no question of another vehicles identity, like you would have with a shortened RR chassis. But it is modified to take the coils. Not sure.
Chassis worth 5 points. You lose 2 points for the axles, 1 point for engine. 2 if transmission changed. You need to keep 8 points to retain original ID/reg no.
I looked at the pics of this when it was on Ebay and saw the old type series chassis underneath. Thought it looked quite honest but did think, as mentioned, that Lightweights were not about in '65. But as said it could of had a series 2a body previously.
its definitely not a shortened rangey chassis, or 2 front rangey chassis as i first assumed. it has been done well to utilise the front suspension set up on the rear. just needs power steering and some leg room. 6'3" 16 stone into a series with car seats is cramped and entry/exit most amusing to the neighbours.

You could use form V888 from post office and for £5 (I think) find out all the info held by Dvla. See if mods are declared etc. What dates they were done if declared. Then you may know more of it's legal status. Do you know if it is the original chassis that's been modified? I can't remember the pics well enough now to give an opinion. But I do remember thinking it was not Rangie. Could be wrong.

the chassis has to be... and I quote...
'original and unmodified or a brand new replacement of original specification'
adding coils.. shortening .... changing outriggers etc etc etc is a mod
unfortunately since SVA was introduced this has been the case ...

whatever you do don't start asking dvla... they employ clerks who know nothing of older cars and pre sva... doesn't compute and people have ended up in a world of pain by asking what should be a simple question...
90% still aren't even aware that an engine change on a tax exempt vehicle no longer needs an engineer report when swopped for a different engine.... and that came in over 12 months ago ...

yeah its a 2A petrol .... lightweight vins are 236*** - 239***... but like I said your better off telling people built pre 96 ... i got sick of the questions with mine and accusations of ringer.... I ended up carrying a copy of the V5 showing the registered but built bit as it got reported so many times... some people have nothing better to do...
sounds a fun motor though.. so where are the pics

People tend to think that because we have SVA/points system now, that it must have always existed!! Despite the fact that thousands of hybrids were built perfectly legally pre SVA. The problem is not the genuine hybrids, it's the 90/110's running around on series ID's and that is, I think, why they get viewed with such suspicion. That and the fact a lot of these do gooders don't actually understand the laws themselves and what came in when.

Good point, but as I understood it they don't read through it all, it's just a data request. But you are right, they won't have the mods listed. Me be stupid. Sorry
just seen it... quite like it although its a genuine late series 3 lightweight modded to take coils... nothing remotely s2 or 2a on it apart from the reg plate lol....
do like the way they have done the rear axle by fitting a front axle casing .. was trying to work out why it had radius arms front and rear... quite a clever set up

its not a front axle case. if you look closely you'll see the dampers are in the same place as on a rear axle. i think its had front brackets welded to a rear case, thats what i will be doing with my salisburys when i fit them. i think its a 2a chassis as it has steering relays?
yeah steering box is common to series 2a and 3's the front outriggers may well be joined at the very front as if reinforcing the centre of the bumper....
