No thats the way i went, but i forgot to come off the M56 on the way home and ended up going through the Mersey tunnel.

I have to trust my landy - its the only mode of transport I have and I can do up to 400 miles a week! I now trust it to start every time, even when it has a day off. I trust it not to dump oil every where now that the breather pipe has been replaced. Long journeys: Check fluids, make sure I have every thing and go. I just don't trust it when I am towing 2 1/2 tonnes up hill.

I have 2 landies.
The Series III, would trust to get me pretty much anywhere. Maybe not in the traditional style, it's kinda like the shaggy mongrel dog you meet in the street. It has a very young approach to life... It likes to vary my sartorial elegance by introducing such fashions as variable cylinder use, rich and lean running. These features are only just being introduced on modern cars at great expense, yet my SIII worked them out for itself! The odd funny noise, but it ALWAYS* gets me there. (My biggest concern is the quality of some of the new spare parts, these are not always good!)
My Discovery 300Tdi is pretty much the same, although has a more mature approach. It goes less on the frippery of fashion and prefers to waft in with elegance, or refuse to partake at all. I would not however trust my Disco off-road nearly as much as my SIII. The Disco is too easily bent and de-commissioned by the odd stray pebble! I have just finished a round Europe trip in my Disco, and may be about to embark on another.

I think you'll find that it was the M53 that took you to the Mersey Tunnel not the M56. So you actually got lost at J11 of the M53 where it crosses the M56. You should have turned west on to the M56. Instead of carrying on straight up the M53. Assuming you were on your way back to Durham if you were on your way to Chester when you got lost then that would have been J21a of the M62 where you went wrong. If you followed the M56 and turn on to the m53 then you must ave had your eyes closed cause there are signs every where pointing you toward Chester and NorthWales.

No thats what you call the driver for setting off with an out of date map. FFS you can get a 2006 road atlas for £1.99 from any "book cellar" or "Stationary Box". It's always the drivers responsibility to make sure they've got the right map for the journey. The passenger can only use what you've supplied.
If you think your lost you probably are. So turn around then, not 2 hours later when you're absolutely certain.

When i relished i took the wrong turn i decided to go this way instead, the problems started when i got into Liverpool and couldn't find a garage, until i ran out.
