Na I had a 300 tdi for 6 years without a hitch , well a worn out water pump most on here don't know that prevention is better than disaster !

I think the difference is there are more on the road at an older age, the majority of cars seem to be less than 10 years old, whereas there's plenty of landys in the 20y/o mark.
I did hear the figure of 70% of all series/defenders are still on the road, can't be that bad can they. They are designed to just keep going.

what do you expect most of em are driven in mud and ponds,and even down steep holes,so steep some cut the ends of the things so they can get back out,then there is the ruts and uneven muddy tracks, and the bushes and fallen trees, and the ropes and winches pulling them apart, wading through lakes if no ponds around, then they are fixed with hammers,steel bars and lots of manly swearing,then they are overloaded with stuff,ready for the breaking down,or set up to survive the wilderness and desolate savanah, of the open city car parks, of course they will break down.......

I personally think they are no worse than other makes but as has been said, they get pushed further and harder than most makes and so break more often. And the nature of this forum means that people come here with whatever the latest fault is.
I've come to the conclusion that if I fix all of the problems at anyone time the 90 will develop another out of spite so the trick is to get it down to just a few minor problems that you can live with and leave it at that!

Pushed more than 205gti's corsa, focus sport , black man cars BMW , porsche ect na they are floored loads improved pulled apart bodged together added go fast lights boom boxes lowered were trying to get away from the ground they are trying to kiss it

i used mine to go out to recover other 4wds from the outback in OZ , where breaking down is a lot more serious than Tescos carpark ! Always had total confidence and was never let down . Had landrovers for more years than I care to remember , only stopped on me a handful of times and they were mostly due to cockups by previous owners/mechs .

I concur with tacr2man. If you maintain it well than the vehicle, what ever make should be reliable. I tend to run older cars, but they are better quality ones (well I think so) and whilst the Land Rover did not initially fit into this perceived bracket, it has proved utterly reliable. One other bonus of running older card I have found is they are quite a bit cheaper than some of the newer machinery.

the older machinery in general takes you three days for a twenty pence fuse. The newer gear is 40 quid to plug it in 100 plus for the part to get "oh it wasn't that but could be this!"
About the same here .. breakdowns are minimal .. breakages and worn stuff that needs replacing before it breaks are the norm.
