As title my discovery td5 cut out this morning, not sure if the fuel needle on the dash is working correctly so got some fuel and put it in.

when i came to prime it i couldnt hear the fuel pump, so thought it was that, but then she did fire up but ran very rough, little power but enough to get it 1/4 mile home.

my first thoughts are fuel pump, but it wouldnt start if that wasnt working so im stumped.

if you have voltage at the fuel pump, but no sound from the pump, its a fair bet to say the pump is knackered

ive just been back out, lifted the carpet and can hear the pump but its very quiet, i used to be able to hear it from outside the vehicle.

so i let it prime, fired up and its running fine:confused: but still the pump is very quiet

it's possible that the HP stage of the pump to not work only the LP one then the engine will run but without any power, it was noisy before that can be a sign that it's gone

It seems to be running fine today, been out and done a few miles and plenty of power and smooth running. Will order a new pump just incase

Exactly what happened to mine, was fine going downhill and on the flat but as soon as I turned to come back up the hill it spluttered and died. Replaced the pump and all was good again.

Have you used the key-on, key-off process to bleed the fuel system of air? If you have ran out of diesel, or got low and lost suction going up-hill then you can get air in the system and it will run rough.
