Hi all
can any one point me in the right direction?
Just spent a few hours under the bonnet with a tickover issue and noticed a "spare wire" flapping in the breeze.
Traced it back to a sensor on the right hand side of the block (looking from the front) and located just next to the oil filter. The sensor has one of those "push there spring to remove" connectors. However upon removal 2 issues were noted:
1) there is only one cable in what should be a 2 cable connector
and
2) the cable that is there is not connected to anything.

So the questions I have are :
a) what is this sensor "sensing"
b) should there be 2 cables
c) where should they be connected to
and
d) if they are not "sensing" shouldn't I have a warning light on ???????
Once again, thanks in advance....
Your expertise is very much appreciated.

You might be better with sticking a photo up, there are loads of spare wires from the loom for the different models.

The cables come from the sensor connector. The same type of connector as the temp sensor...
I think they are supposed to be connected to something but can't find what.

just tried to add a photo but my laptop keeps showing an error.
The connector is the same type as the temp sensor on the water outlet.

Yes I have aircon and it works ok
oil pressure sensor looks favourite.
cable is black.

I assume there should be a second and they connect somewhere?
I don't have an oil pressure warning light on??

Definitely seems to be the oil pressure switch but I have no lights on on the dash. Any ideas??

As has been said already, it's the oil pressure switch.

Although there are two wires going into the oil pressure switch connector, there's only one male tab on the oil pressure switch, which connects to the White/Brown trace wire.

The White/Brown trace wire goes to the oil pressure warning light (the oil pressure switch earths it down to the block)

The Black 'earth' wire from the oil pressure switch connector goes nowhere, and is left unconnected in the engine bay.

That's the way Land Rover made them
