My tail gate handle is jammed
The plunger for the central locking is working but the handle wont open the door from outside, luckily it works from inside but i use my Disco for work and my tools live in the boot so I really need it fixing.

What i need to know is if this is a comon fault, how long difficult to fix, and where to get the bits??

mines the same, so yes, i would say that it is a commen fault.

Not sure how to fix it though. Sorry.

yes it is, take the door card off and check your linkage, also get busy with the wd40

Had the same problem - if you take the land rover badge off the outside handle you should be able to aim WD40 or similar to the mechanism, this did the trick for me.

Hi there chipv8, this is a very common problem, DO NOT USE WD-40 !!!

WD stands for water dispersant and has very little to do with lubrication.

The easy and quick way to give a permanent solution to this problem is as follows:

1. Remove the oval LR badge on the door handle with a small flat-bladed screwdriver;

2. Get a torch and look through the hole and you'll see a rod that the external lock lever pivots on. Get a dollop of lithium grease on your finger-end and smother each end of this rod with grease, whilst working the locking lever.

It will ease off, keep working it with grease until it works correctly and regularly.

I did this 3 yrs ago on my wifes tdi200 and never had a problem since.

Grease, NOT WD-40

The problem is caused by road muck swirling up the back door and into the lock - covered in grease it will stay unaffected.

got around to fixing this recently got bored of climbing over tthe back seat to open it from inside!
Door card came off breaking half the trim clips as expected, and after taking the whole lock assemble apart to get access i found the handle to catch linkage had simply popped off! it was a very frustrating and fiddly job to do but satisfying and so much easier than constantly climbing over the back seat

Glad you got it sorted, a little trick that I found is if you use a 1 or 2mm drill bit and make a hole in the middle then using a small screw thread it until you have grip and pull.
This will put out the centre and you can reuse them, as long as their not a son of gun.
