hi
just got my first disco its a 300tdi 5'speed reg'd december 1995
every morning i unlock with remote then ignition on glow light on then off and it starts first time

after a few hrs after its been parked at work if i try to start it glow plugs work as per normal BUT NO CRANKING FROM STARTER
( but does bump within about 5ft ) i changed the battery just incase

as it bumps i presume the imobaliser is fine

chears ALL TIM

Sit in vehicle, key out of ignition, lock doors with fob, count to ten, unlock dors re-isert key and try it if it goes it,s something to do with the immobiliser more than that I to am lost, works with mine ok

Not sure how to cure this other than as you say running a seperate switched live from the ign to the fuel solenoid and starter relay, but I am sure some of the more experienced owners will be along with a suggestion.it appears you have cranking voltage but not to the fuel solenoid then when you stop cranking the voltage returns to th esolenoid allowing you to "bump it"

red alarm light goes out and engine DOES NOT TURN OVER
my first thort is starter ( but have herd many stories about alarm faults )

not done spider bypass yet !!!
just been out to it , when i set allarm the red led flashes like mad till set ,
unlocks fine and red light goes out it just dosn't turn over somtimes , when it dosnt turn over it bump starts straight away ,
STILL NOT SURE WHETHER TO FIT NEW STARTER ANYWAY
if i sit inside and lock it then try starting it without unlocking with fob
the alarm goes off and a key symbol comes up on dash

Sorry I misread your original post, nothing when you turn the key, you need to check down at the starter where the feed to the solenoid is, a multimeter is best, make sure you get one thats reads DC voltage some do not, but you can use a 12V bulb in a holder but to be honest they are coppers at any hardware shop, pull the terminal off the solenoid one multimeter lead (red)stuffed into it and the other to a known earth (black) when the key is turned you should get at least 12 V, to check the starter it self a length of wire from the positive terminal and flick it against the solenoid terminal with the feed disconnected, make sure you take off the fuel solenoid terminal as it is sods law the bugger will start if it turns over your starter is ok,

if your not getting relay to click could easy be immobiliser ,most times with all windows and doors shut repeated locking unlocking will cure it ,till next time

thanks for all the help
well bit the bullet
fitted new starter and all is fine ,
DID RENEW THE SPADE CONECTOR ON STARTER AND PUT IN A EXTRA WIRE SO IF IT DOSNT CRANK OVER ON THE KEY I CAN FLASH IT ON + ON BATTERY

I'v only had mine a month I was running a VW Passat estate which was knackered, I had a Disco years back good to be back with one again,
