I knew there was a reason I didn't like new Minis - some twonk in one did this to our lovely D2 on the weekend....

Soooo p*ssed off, I can't tell you. Currently with the insurers garage for assessment, but I suspect a write off. As it is (or was...) in such good nick and low mileage for year, I'm thinking of getting it fixed as long as the chassis is OK etc.

Yes, wife and kid OK, as was the other driver. Going around a fairly tight right hander on the lanes near us, and met a Mini coming the other way - I think the bend caught him out as it tightens up and he understeered into us on the apex. Even more annoyingly, the impact kicked the rear of the car to the left, which then hit the chevron sign there - skilfully sited so you have something nice and solid to hit if you don't make the bend. So that made some dents on the other side and broke the rear side window too.

Incidentally, both the Minis airbags went off - incredible amount of smoke they seemed produced, I half thought his car was on fire inside when I opened his door to see if he was OK. Must have been really disorientating in there...

Yes, I think so. Hoping that most of it is salvageable and can be swapped into a good casing (assuming the replacement has much high mileage parts in it).

Where's a good source of D2 parts, might need to start collecting bits...!

Thats rough! Good to hear no personal injuries. Probably will be a Cat D/C you will probably be offered a chance to buy it back from the insurance co. if you want to get it repaired yourself.
There are a few D2,s on Copart with much less damage.

We planned to buy back the wife's car for the neighbour as he fancied fixing it but told it's the cost of the car plus recovery and storage fees which is a bit of a con.

Yes they like to recover all their "costs"!
But it doesn't always go their way, saw a Jaguar X-Type with minor damage go for £50 last week, its now on its way to Poland!
