OK, off to look at an R plate Disco ES with average mileage (90odd k). I know to check the chassis rails, check boot floor and footwells don'e resemble a seive, check inner wings actually are still there and rear seatbelt anchors. Question is, where exactly do I check the seatbelt mounts? Anything else to look at? Is it bad etiquette to weild a #1 universal removal tool on bits of someone elses motor?

Check the rear crossmember & body mounts and the floor alongside the front seats. also side sills. & headlamp housings.

Righto. I'm assuming that a little bit of rusting is to be expected, as long as it isn't perforated, so hammerite an waxoyl will have a chance of making it last a while...

To check the rear seatbelt mounts, fold the rear seats forward. Standing by the rear door, lift the carpet and sound damping mat and have a look. Sometimes you get trapped moisture under there and it starts rotting (happened to mine but I noticed in time and it's not too bad). I'm pretty sure you can do this without taking anything apart!
