Hi there to all my landy zone buddies I hope you're all well.

Okay I, or should I say 'Bertie', has a problem:

Started fine on Friday (several journeys with no problems)
Wouldn't start on Saturday afternoon (hot weather?)
Started first thing on Sunday morning (several journeys)
Wouldn't start Sunday afternoon (hot weather again?)

Is this an immobilizer problem? As everything else is top notch!
Weekly checks all done and no prob's

Hoping one of you disco genies can help this blonde in discotress!

Does the engine turn over when the key is turned? If it doesn't can you hear a clicking?
Check the diesel leak-off pipes between the injectors, they're known for splitting and letting air into the system causing intermittent starting. Do all the usual lights come on when you turn the key, whether it starts or not?

Hi there Paul thankyou for your speedy response x

Yes the engine turns but doesn't start (just like when the immobilizer is on) and yes all of the lights work.
Will check the "diesel leak-off pipes" as soon as I get my landy back on my drive (waiting for my dad to take me to the supermarket car park where I've had to leave it

)

Just looking in my 'Haynes repair manual' - where are the leak-off pipes located? Yep as you can tell I'm a complete novice but eager to learn

The pipes that go from 1 injector to the next.....and from no1 injector back to the tank

They're short, maybe 4" long, look like black cloth covered pipes near the top of the engine, going between the injectors.

must be a 300tdi and not a 200tdi on a 96 model ,check solenoid wire on rear of injection pump stays live while engine is cranked when fault occurs

Blue beasty - found the pipes

Paul D - yep right where you said they were

Jamesmartin - you're right 'Bertie' is indeed a 300tdi

In a nutshell it wasn't the pipes causing the leak but the 'Banjo bolts' - all sorted now, but alas I didn't fix it

but a good friend did - but hey at least I'm learning

'Bertie' now has a large piece of cardboard under him to catch any drips - those little drips look worse than they are apparently
