hi all

ive just bought a second hand ES steering wheel to fit on my 96 300tdi but the wiring for the horn has me stumped anyone know a fix??

my original wheel has no airbag.

the original is 2 spade connectors (1 larger than the other)

the new es wheel has 2 pins in the centre of the airbag?

do i need a wiring loom as well?

thanks as always

tony

you sure you can fit a air'bag wheel to a non air'bag car , you wouldn't want to connect up the incorect wires as the air'bag has a amount of explosive to deploy the bag
AND THEY HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO SELF DEPLOY IF MUCKED ABOUT WITH

Be careful mate :)

I was also going to try and do this but decided to stick with the old wheel in the end for 2 reasons, firstly I believe the ES steering wheel uses a rotary coupling which contains the wiring for the airbag and for the horn, whereas as you know the older non-airbag wheel just has two basic wires to connect to the horn pad. The second reason was along the lines of what's said above, putting an airbag into a car not built to have one. I thought this might have insurance implications and would cause some confusion should you ever have the car repaired at a garage. You've no sensors or ecu in your car to activate an airbag so although it wouldn't be connected I still wouldn't fancy it stuck in my face.

cheers guys,

i think ill put it back on ebay or on here to re-sell it.
ill look round for a second hand non airbag type

thanks again

tony
