Ive recently bought a disco 300tdi that has a lifted suspension and Scorpion Racing adjustable prop shafts.

I can hear all the critisms of my stupidity. i do intend to drop the suspension back to normal height eventually but due to other issues and lack of finances its stuck as it is for the moment.

the problem i have is that the front prop shaft u-j failed causing damage to the yoke end that ataches to the transfer box (rear end of front propshaft). Ive phoned a few suppliers to try and get a front propshaft but no one is sure if theirs will fit. Apparently the length of the prop itself (minus the uj's and end gubbins) is approx 20 inches and with all the end gubbins is 26.5 - 27 inches.

has anybody got any sensible ideas of a solution to the problem? i cant afford to scrap it and cant afford to drop the suspension down to standard height at the moment.

you could allways put in diff lock and drive on rear axle,or why not fit std prop frc8386

cheers for your reply.

do i disconnect front prop all together then engage diff lock? how long can i get away with this for? will it not risk causing damage to the rear diff/axle?

when i enquired with various suppliers, both new and second hand, of props they didnt know if a standard length prop would fit (hence my enquiry on here to grill the DIY experts) due to the suspension lift. i think its only 2" but also has oversize bf goodrich all terrain tyres on it too.

it fit if 2 inch lift,remove all of front prop and for years as long as in good condition

once again thanks for the info.

well hopefully the most I'll need to run it for without the front prop is just the weekend and a 200 miles at most.

A standard prop will fit fine with a 2 inch lift, the only time it would come close to being a problem is offroad with the axles dropping down etc.

Potentially the UJ's are under more strain with a lift but many find that they are fine with a lift.

If you do remove the prop then you will need to lock the diff to get any drive, DO NOT drive on hard surfaces with the difflock engaged when both props are fitted! You will not cause any damage to the centre, front or rear diffs by removing a prop and driving with difflock engaged.

would you recommend the use of a propshaft spacer whilst im still running on the suspension lift?

You shouldn't need to.

Incidentally, why would we critisise you for buying a machine with a lift kit fitted? Many on here have lifts fitted and as this allows the fitting of larger tyres you get better ground clearance.

More being critised for having the Sgh at thcorpion racing props on it - thoue time of purchase i knew nothing of the fact that Scorpion appears to have ceased trading and couldnt get bits to replace the broken bits.

Hopefully the landie will be back on the road tomorrow - just in time for a busy weekend of work.
