A friend of mine has just left his Disco 3 with me stating that the electronic park brake is making a whine screaming noise and randomly a park brake light is flashing while driving.

He figures I can fix it, before I even go near it, what should I be looking for - any tips on where to start or what may be wrong with it.

Strip the drums down check the handbrake levers are free not tight at all
Make sure shoes are not worn out
Build up and adjust correctly (there is a specific way)

See how that goes

Sorted, retention clips had fallen off, been chewed to smithereens and the pins had dropped out the back so the shoes were sitting on the discs all the time and had worn through to the metal. Anyway, I stripped both sides cleaned everything up, new shoes, ran it in "shoe bedding in mode" and all good.
