Grrrrrr

Hi all,
I've a mate who has bought a bit of a bargain Disco 3. It is the 2.7 diesel from 2007. There's a reason it is a bit of a bargain and that's that it has some faults! I figured a good place to start would be some decent diagnostics. I see @gstuart recommends the iid tool, although it seems pretty much the same price as a Nanocom!
Now, I happen to have a Nanocom for the P38 but the Disco has a CANBUS system, presumably the same as the L322? I seem to remember something odd about the L322 diagnostics depending on the year. Some people were using AllComms, I think. And isn't there some sort of hidden built in diagnostics? @Saint.V8 or maybe @holidaychicken can probably put me straight there. Anyway, the question is: is it possible to read anything from hidden menus or are we going to need a bespoke bit of kit for the D3? If the latter, how does the iid compare to the Nanocom? Anyone used both? I assume Hawkeye / Lynx isn't up to much, even if they can handle it?
Thanks in advance.
