I've just bought a non driving disco 2 v8 manual and took a chance on it thinking that it was quite likely to be the output shaft stripped into the transfer case so had a pleasant surprise when I found that the front diff is Fubar,my question is will a 300Tdi front diff fit the disco 2 v8 and are they the same,I know that the axle swivels are different but are the diff's?

I think they're the same! Bit you really need Jamesmartin to confirm this, he's the expert...

The more I look online it seems that they change from 99 on in most of the listings that I have seen

I mean, they do look similar from the outside, it's a rover type carrier, but ive never heard of anyone breaking d2 for d1 spares so they could well be different.

I can't remember what the shaft was like cos I had a d2 halfshaft out recently!

should fit but may need some of the case studs changing the 4 shorter middle ones

Thanks for that,I've now found a D2 front diff so going that route
