Check the suspension bushes and steering ball joint for play/wear, tyre pressures, if theres no faults found with either,then...............
I'd save the money for the garage and (me ducks below fence...
) tell the wife to drive faster and use the middle/outside lane.........although this may not be a healthy option....

My 2003 Disco 2 TD5 usually steers fine but on the motorway it wants to follow any worn tramlines (and scares the **** out of my wife when she's driving in the slow lane). Any advice on tackling this before I spend a fortune at a garage?
Any vehicle with big fat tyres is going to do the same mate, takes a bit of getting used to.

Worth checking the tracking though. If it IS out then your tyres will wear very quickly. Seems most tyre places won't adjust Disco tracking, but they can still check it for you. My Disco 2 is actually better at this than most of the cars I've had.
