I have a 12th month 2003 Series 2 TD5 done 159K which has developed an oil leak from the transfer box, not coming from either shaft seal. Oil is clean and appears on the left of the box. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

As you may gather I am looking for ideas on where the leak may be coming from ie: how to stop, where to look.
 
how bad is it? if its only small leave it..they all leak from some part of the trans/engine.
My t box was splattering all over the rear axle for months til i fixed it...best rustproofing you can get
 
Oil leak is pretty bad, spattering up back door on long trip, concerned about box drying up between checks.

mine did out of the blue...tbh though IF it is the plate, its mega easy to sort it...drain the fluid, unbolt, clean up, use a tube of sealant round the edge, reverse the removal & fill up...done...or if you cant, whack some transmission stop leak in it & check the level regularly
